This video clip explains some details about some tax programs that have been put into place to help homeowners that were in foreclosure and have sold their home via short sale. I have had a lot of clients that have expressed their concerns that they will have to pay taxes for in return for their lenders cancelling their debt. I have sucessfully done several short sales over the past few years and most of my clients if not all are found to be insolvent meaning that they had less assets compared to the amount of debt. Most people that are in foreclosure don't have any tax consequence. My biggest reason for posting this video and article is to express how important it is to be sure you file these forms on your tax return when you recieve a IRS Form 1099-C or IRS Form 1099-A so the IRS knows you don't owe the tax. If you don't file them on your return they will flag your return because they think you may owe taxes on the Cancellation of Debt from your lender.
